SUMMARY:Digital Preservation: How Digitization Can Protect and Enhance Your Research
DESCRIPTION:Digital preservation is the current standard for the backup and conservation of irreplaceable documents\, artifacts\, and historic sites. Mischa Johns will be speaking about why going digital is not as scary as it seems\, as well as cover some of the basic best practices in digital preservation. Mischa will talk about some of the technology used in digital preservation and some of the amazing applications this technology can be put to\, before having a brief scanning session. If you have any photos\, documents\, or pamphlets/brochures related to Putnam County that you would like to digitally donate to the archive (you'll get them back afterwards!)\, please bring them to the meeting. Born and raised in Palatka\, Mischa is the daughter of Thomas and Betty Johns. She received her AA from St. Johns River Community College\, BA Anthropology from the University of Florida\, and MA Archaeology from the University of Sheffield\, majoring in death and burial. She spent 5 years as the assistant city archaeologist of St. Augustine where she completed over 250 excavations. Currently she is the Putnam County Archivist\, working at the Putnam County Headquarters Library in Palatka.
