SUMMARY:Arts Council of Greater Palatka Gallery Exhibit " Retrospective show of art work by the late JoAnn Mullins"
DESCRIPTION:The Arts Council of Greater Palatka invites you to view our newest gallery exhibit in an opening reception on June 7th\, 2019. Reception hours are 5:30 to 7:30\, at the Larimer Arts Center\, 216 Reid St. Palatka. The public is invited and refreshments will be served. Opening is free and open to the public.\n\nThis month we will be featuring a Retrospective show of art work by the late JoAnn Mullins in our large gallery and foyer. Many of you may remember her as a regular attendee at the Art Shoppe and Gallery 'Third Friday Happy Hour and Social'\, hosted by Rob and Mary Rhadigan. Surely you remember her famous Potato Salad!\n\nIn our smaller gallery we will feature the after school art students from the Children's Reading Center presenting their work of "Fairy Houses" made from natural materials and lots of imagination. After weeks of work the houses will be on display. The young artists are ages 5-11 and their work is exceptionally inventive and detailed\, including hand-made furniture and enchanting multi leveled structures covered with natural mosses\, vine and critters. Teacher Sally Jan Smith is proud of the work her students made\, calling the houses 'Charming and Inventive'\, we have to agree!\n\nJoAnn's Mullin' Granddaughter\, Sunni Krantz\, inherited much of her "MawMaw's" artwork when JoAnn passed away in 2016. She has about 28 pieces she is willing to sell them to others who remember her Grandmother's Art "I think this will be a wonderful tribute to Ms. Mullins who was a sweet lady and talented Artist\," says Evelyn Snyder\, Gallery Curator for the Arts Council. She enjoyed attending the 3rd Friday Night gallery nights where she was as much known for her potato salad as her paintings! \n\nIn about 2005 JoAnn read in the Palatka Daily News about the "Palatka Art Shoppe and Gallery". She gathered up her works and put them in the car and drove downtown. The owner\, Mary Rhadigan\, was happy to put the works on sale in her shop and encouraged her to continue painting. My MamMaw loved the time she was associated with the "Art Shoppe".\n\n"Up until this time\, my grandmother mostly had painted landscapes which were really her memories of growing up on the mountain. The Palatka Art Shoppe and Gallery had several painters who painted land and seascapes\, so the owner asked my grandmother to focus on still life works\, because she could paint pottery perfectly round'" Says Sunni. "My grandmother passed away in 2016. She was my best friend\, my mentor\, and my art teacher. I have found peace with her passing in knowing that she lives on through me. She will always be with me in my heart and her paintings give us a glimpse of her heart her beloved mountains and her beloved Florida." \n\nJoAnn's art is oil on canvas. Her preferred size canvas was 16 x 20. Her landscapes show scenes of mountains and beaches and her still life depict her famous pottery and fruit. \n\nJoann's work will be on display until July 11th\, and can be viewed during regular Larimer Center operation hours of 10 to 4 Monday through Thursday\, as well as during special events at the center.\n\n Come see this combination of new artists just starting out\, expressing themselves with lovely little creations of Fairy Houses. In contrast\, the legacy of a lifetime portraying the love of art displayed in the work of JoAnn Mullins.
