Description
The Arts Council announces our next Saturday Nite Live. This is a special Saturday Nite live as we are helping local artist Billy Ennis go to Memphis Tennessee. Many of you know Billy and know he has always been there to play at events or activities that raise funds. He was a supporter of our Olivia Lay Auction held for many years by Arts Council that raised money for scholarships to Florida School of the Arts students. Now we would like to do a little to help Billy. “Live at the Larimer” is on Saturday, December, 15th from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at the Larimer Arts Center located at 216 Reid St. Palatka. Cost is $7:00 at the door. Now here is the deal not only do we want to help Billy, if you bring food to donate for the Feed the Need program we are making the door fee just $5.00. We ask that you don’t bring glass items the kids actually take the food home in back packs for the Christmas break. This is a wonderful program! Come have a great night of music and fun with us at the Larimer in the Scarlett Hill Theater.
“Sweet William”, Billy Ennis is a singer/song writer who has lived in Palatka for over three decades. His personally original songs written over the span of fifty years covers multi genres and subjects including love and war with a heavy dose of Blues. On August 26th of this year he competed in and won the North Central Florida Blues Regional Challenge Solo Competition and will represent the North Central Florida Blues Society at the January 2019 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. According to the Blues Foundation web site (https://blues.org); “The International Blues Challenge represents the worldwide search for those Blues Bands and Solo/Duo Blues Acts ready to perform on the international stage, yet just needing that extra big break.”
His trip to Memphis is self-funded and funds will be needed for travel, food and lodging. The IBC begins with registration on January 21 and first round performances on the 22nd and 23rd. Winning acts move on to the quarter, semi and finals on January 24th, 25th and 26th. Sweet William will compete successive nights in the first round, 25 minute sets with three different judges in two different clubs on Beale Street.
With the help of the Arts Council of Greater Palatka Inc. and others, Sweet William’s acoustic finger pick style, that weaves a simple feel of storytelling Blues, and has brought him from Palatka, hopefully will propel him to the final round in Memphis.
The Arts Council is thankful for the support of the arts and artists in Putnam County.
The Arts Council is the Local Designated Arts Agency for Putnam County and is a 501-C3.
Concerts at the Larimer are supported in part by The City of Palatka, memberships, the Putnam County Tourist Development Council, the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
